Dr. Hay's presentation examines the concept of a teaching building. No longer are college buildings passive, Okanagan College's Centre of Excellence enables students to interact with the emerging technologies that are incorporated into the building itself.

Dr. Hay holds a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alberta and is a professional engineer registered in B.C. and Alberta. He has taught at the University of Alberta, the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and Okanagan University College. He has been involved in a number of technology-related associations including having served as the president and an executive board member of the Okanagan Science and Technology Council (OSTEC), a member of the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of B.C. (ASTTBC) Accreditation Board, the Airport Training Council, the National Committee of the Deans of Technology, and various international committees of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He is currently serving on theÂ Technology Education Career Council for B.C. He continues to be actively engaged with students, through mentoring and assisting with instruction at Okanagan College in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
