Roby Alampay, former executive director of the Southeast Asia Press Alliance, a regional NGO dedicated to the promotion of journalist rights, argues that freedom has tangible economic benefits that the Philippines undervalues and underappreciates.

Freedom is the one thing the country does better than anyone else in Southeast Asia, he says, and can be used to lead to more jobs, lure investments and create value.
