In the 1970s and 1980s, two forms of art help keep the flames of struggle against the Marcos dictatorship alive. The first were the songs of protest that expressed hope, outrage and resistance. The second were large lightning murals, painted on city walls in minutes by teams of artists who had to work fast and often in masks in order to avoid arrest.

Their art, gave voice and vision and popularized the struggle for freedom.

In this performance, highly acclaimed singer Noel Cabangon and a team of artists (who chose to remain anonymous) pay tribute the the singers and artists of the past who helped lay down the foundations for our present freedom.

Watch as a 7x15 foot canvas is transformed into large scale painting in the time that it takes Noel Cabangon to sing three of his original songs: "Simpleng Pilipino," "O Juan" and "Usok".

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
