TEDxTanta - Ramy Essam -Egyptians Stand Together November 14, 2011
Ramy Essam established the band "Mashakel" (translated to "Problems") in 2009 and through this band started to sing for a free life, illustrating the simple daily problems he lives along with all Egyptians under Mubarak's regime.
Once the 25 January 2011 revolution kicked off, Ramy held his guitar and headed directly to Tahrir Square, where he lived the days of the revolution, singing continuously to lift the protestors' spirits and translate their protests into songs that they sang back with him day and night. Although Ramy was arrested and brutally tortured through the process, he came out stronger and more insisting to speak out against tyranny and corruption; traveling to almost each Egyptian town and singing with its people till this day

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
