The brilliant Cesar Harada explains his open source sailing drone, designed to clean oil spills and with the potential to perform many additional tasks crucial to managing the health of the world's oceans.

Cesar Harada coordinates Open_Sailing, a group developing the open-source International Ocean Station. Among IOS projects is Protei, a fleet of semi-autonomous sailing drones that can collect spilled oil safely and inexpensively, are hurricane-ready, self-righting and unbreakable, and easy to manufacture for immediate response.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
