Mark Leonard, Executive Director of the European Council on Foreign Relations, discusses the current state of democratic reforms in China, arguing that experimentation with democracy may have the result of making the Chinese one-party state stronger rather than weaker.

Mark Leonard is the Executive Director of the European Council on Foreign Relations. He is also an adviser to companies and governments on China as well as Middle East reform.
Previously, Mark Leonard was the Director of Foreign Policy at the London-based Centre for European Reform, and was a transatlantic fellow at the German Marshall Fund in the United States.

Mr. Leonard has authored two books and has written several articles on international affairs in periodicals including The Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, and The International Herald Tribune.
