Daniel Nebert, MD is an expert in the field of evolutionary genetics and genomics. As professor of Environmental Health and Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center since 1989, Dr. Nebert developed the Glo-Fish Project. By injecting green fluorescent protein, or GFP, into the fertilized eggs of zebrafish, Dr. Nebert was able to determine aquaticpollution levels in reservoirs and creeks as the GFP gene responded to these pollutants. Following exposure to the pollutants, the zebrafish could then be detoxified in clean water and reused many times over the course of their three-year life span. Dr. Nebert will talk about the practical implications of this project and how we, as individuals, can get involved.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
