"Finding your voice."

Margaux Smith is learning to find her voice and wants to share her message with anyone who faces this challenge too.

As a post-graduate student in the Fundraising and Volunteer Management program at Humber College (Toronto, Canada), more than anything, Margaux wants to make a difference. Active in the online fundraising community as a blogger and spending perhaps a bit too much time on Twitter (@margauxs), Margaux is learning to find her voice.

Combining an avid enthusiasm for animal behaviour and love of learning, she has worked with Asian elephants in Thailand, young horseback riders in South Africa, endangered Macaws in Costa Rica and wild birds in Ottawa. She believes all species deserve our attention and hopes to spend her life promoting compassion and empathy towards those who need it most.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
