LCV Cities Tour - Beaumont: The James Commission February 2, 2012
We tour what was once the Dixie Hotel with Beaumont Historian Judith Lindsley. The Dixie Hotel was once a brothel which was frequented by Beaumont politicians, businessmen and leaders. We speak to her about corruption and crime in the city leading up to the 1960s. In 1960 an ambitious state legislator named Tom James created a commission to combat against organized crime in Jefferson County in other parts of Eastern Texas. The Dixie Hotel was shut down during the James Commission's reign.
