Gerry Bobsien is a writer, surfer and reluctant ballet mother. She has worked as an industrial blacksmith, curator, librarian and copywriter. In 2009, her first book for young adults Surf Ache was published by Walker Books Australia. Vinni Versus Bluebottle and Maddy is: Notorious will be released in 2012 with How to Suspend Your Disbelief and Other Tricks of the Mind scheduled in 2013. She was previously Public Art Curator Newcastle Art Gallery and Director of the Lock-Up Cultural Centre where she implemented a new cultural program and curated exhibitions including The Star (a rollicking rock and roll tribute to the iconic pub) and Brought to Light (an exhibition focused on three key hidden treasures of Newcastle). Sometimes all she wants to do is surf.

Part of this talk was inspired by discussions surrounding the book Humiliation by Wayne Kaustenbaum. There is an excellent review of it by Sam Twyford-Moore on Meanjin.
