John Kormeling - How much grass one sees in an open field.

Some interesting mathematics by architect John Kormeling. Imagine you're 1.7 m tall. Looking around, a quick calculation shows that you can see 75 km2 of grass. If you are an architect and your name is John Kormeling, this observation spontaneously leads to questions like "How wide would a road be that has this surface, but travels around the world?"

The answer? 1.7m, exactly the same number your calculation started with. Even funnier, the comparison also holds for other starting numbers. Coincidence? Certainly not. Check out the amusing mathematical explanation by John and realize that A + B can indeed equal A. Useful? One can wonder. Enterntaining? Certainly.
