Dr. Meyers is a tenured Professor in the philosophy department at Oklahoma City

University and the Senior Minister at Mayflower UCC Church. Dr. Meyer is also a syndicated columnist,
an award winning commentator for NPR and the author of six books. At TEDxOKC he discussed the idea
that the failure to develop the empathic imagination is a universal precursor to violence.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of
local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event
is called TEDxOKC, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxOKC event, TEDTalks
video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED
Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours,
are self-organized.
