Joe Lambert is the Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Digital Storytelling, Berkeley, CA. Joe's work in professional theater in the 80′s and 90′s led to his joining with collaborators to develop a method for capturing personal stories in new media, the Digital Storytelling Workshop. Since 1993, Joe and his organization have traveled the world to spread the practice of digital storytelling, assisting some 15,000 people to complete stories, and influencing the spread of his methods to millions of others in five continents and more than 90 countries. Lamber has authored and produced curricula in many contexts, including the Digital Storytelling Cookbook, the principle manual for the workshop process, and his textbook Digital *Storytelling: Capturing Lives, Creating Community*, now in its 3rd Edition.

Screen culture and the social network have become the new campfire for story exchanges between cultures, communities and individuals. How are these stories put to purpose in addressing critical issues within our societies, in assisting with own issues of life process and physical and mental health, in helping to make the connections in our networks to act for social change? Reflecting on the role of digital story exchanges in the Arab Spring, and addressing the natural and environmental disaster of the Japanese Tsunami in March, Lambert will share some thoughts on how storytelling is changing in the 21st Century.
