Lara Alegria Mira received her Master's Degree in Civil Engineering at Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2010. Her dissertation on the design and analysis of a Universal Scissor Component for mobile architectural applications gained her the 'KVIV' engineering prize, a prize given by the Royal Flemish Society of Engineers to the best Master's thesis in engineering, and also landed her a nomination for the 'Vlaamse Scriptie' (Flemish Thesis) prize. Today she works as a researcher with the Architectural Engineering Department of Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
Niels De Temmerman is an architectural engineer with a PhD (2007) on deployable scissor structures. He became professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (2009), teaching architectural and parametric design of structures and conducting research on transformable structures (deployables & kit-of-parts systems).
