The Authors@Google program welcomed Anthony Grafton to Google's New York office to discuss his book, "Codex in Crisis"

From the book jacket:

"The growth of the Internet and ambitious new projects like Google Books have led some commentators to foretell the dawn of the "universal archive" and, with it, the end of printed books. In Codex in Crisis, Anthony Grafton places this new information ecology into a sweeping historical context and explored the implications of digitization for the ways we read, write, and preserve information."

Anthony Grafton is the Henry Putnam Professor of History and Princeton University and a corresponding fellow of the British Academy. He is the author of such books as "The Footnote: A Curious History", "Defenders of the Text: The Traditions of Scholarship in an Age of Science", and "What was History?: The Art of History in Early Modern Europe". He also writes on a wide variety of topics for The New Republic, The American Scholar and The New York Review of Books.

This event took pace on December 17, 2008.
