Jacqueline Novogratz visits Google's Mountain View, CA headquarters to discuss her book "The Blue Sweater." This event took place on March 18, 2009, as part of the Authors@Google series.

How does one person change the world? Jacqueline Novogratz gave up the rewards of Wall Street to pursue a moral vision that would enable the poor to help themselves by putting their individual destinies in their own hands. Trained as an international banker and development expert, seven years ago she founded Acumen Fund, now recognized as a leader in the field of social entrepreneurship. Novogratz pioneered a third way between venture capitalism and traditional charity. She regards people living on limited incomes not as passive victims, but as potential customers and budding business people in their own right.

The Blue Sweater at once is a deeply personal coming-of-age story of a young idealist determined to change the world, and a call to action to all those concerned with growing inequality around the globe.

Jacqueline Novogratz is the founder and CEO of Acumen Fund, a nonprofit venture capital firm that invests in entrepreneurs bringing affordable and sustainable healthcare, water, energy and housing to people earning less than $4 a day. She travels frequently and currently resides in New York City.
