The Gemini Shortcake Duo Presents the Art of Piano Duo.
Serina Chang, ES '09 HS '15, & Alison Chang, HS '12, began playing together when Alison was seven and Serina was four.
In 2008, the sisters established the Gemini Shortcake Duo (GSD), primarily focusing on duo piano repertoire. Since then, the GSD has rocked many concert halls and computer screens with major works by Mozart, Mendelssohn, Copland, Shostakovich, Bernstein and Milhaud. Alison and Serina received the Grand Prize in the Chicago Duo Piano Festival
Competition and 3rd prize in the Queens Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. The girls also appeared as guest
artists in the Queens Symphony Orchestra's Holidays Around the World Concerts. Their engaging stage personalities have inspired many fellow teens to take a greater interest in classical music. Their YouTube channel, featuring both their solo and duo performances, has attracted over 675,000 views.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently
organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
