The Challenges of Understanding a Different Culture.
Sera Kwon, HS '12, is passionate about government, policy and international studies, and in particular Middle Eastern culture. This summer, she spent six weeks studying Arabic in Jordan on a scholarship from the State Department. Last year Sera took part in Washington Seminar, a three-day trip to Washington DC, in which 30 Hunter students met
government officials and foreign policy experts. As the co-chair of Hunter's Model UN, she is currently working to organize the high school's first mock Model UN Conference.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together
to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion
and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently
organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx
events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
